The Crunch Time is Here!!!

On the 8th of September we wrote an article titled ‘As the Crunch Time Draws Closer’. See Article on this link: http://plfa.org.za/2019/09/08/as-the-crunch-time-draws-closer/ .

This article aimed at sensitising the coming of the deadline for Members to fulfil their obligations in paying their debts as arranged. That is, the first deadline for the 19th of September was to pay all the installments missed in the past months, and the 30th of September deadline to pay the last arranged installment for the year.

This predicament of monies owed comes from the beginning of the year. According to the Congress resolution, this matter was supposed to have been resolved in February and March earlier this year. Due to Executive Committee then having the belief that Members would corporate in paying up without the threat of suspension, the implementation of this resolution was delayed. Now it could not be delayed any further.

By the 19th of September, 15 Members were still not compliant. See the make up of the missed deadline here-below:

We understand that for many of them it is not because of lack of want to be compliant, but circumstances that they felt they could not control.

During this period, we assisted Atteridgeville Young Zebras to have a meeting with the parents of their players. We wrote an article about it. See the link: http://plfa.org.za/2019/09/14/youngzebrasparentsmeeting/ . This scenario proved that many parents want to assist Members with their financial obligations. Young Zebras, although in short notice for the parents, they managed to meet the deadline of the 19th, and thus are compliant. Therefore, it bolts down to good governance within clubs, ensuring that parents get involved, and they too fulfil their obligations towards the club.

The association is of the view that clubs must not be run from the pockets of the owners / management (unless for Super League clubs). This is unfortunately the belief that many club owners have. This belief must change.

Now the Crunch Time is Here!!! The 19th September deadline has come and past and 15 Members are not compliant. The association will allow these Members to make final representations about their situations and non-compliance thereof on the 25th of September 2019 at Molambo Community Hall from 18h00.

The natural way forward for non-compliant Members is to have them suspended (of which they are) and withdrawn from the leagues within which they participate. This middle step of representations will only serve to ensure that the Executive Committee does not act abruptly, and provides an opportunity to clubs to state their side of the story prior to subsequent steps being followed.

On the 25th of September 2019, as the EXCO creates an opportunity for Members to make representations, affected Members are requested to take the process seriously, and understand that this is not a compulsory step towards the suspension and / or withdrawal from leagues. Affected Members are requested to be represented by the Heads of their Clubs, with all the necessary documentation required to make the representations to avoid the suspension and / or withdrawal.

It becomes important therefore for Members to take care of their obligations towards the association seriously going forward. Opportunities similar to the one of the 25th of September 2019 will not be a requirement in future.

There is still the deadline of the 30th of September and the following Members are affected:

We would like to take the opportunity to thank all the following 16 Members who complied on time, and urge them to no drop the ball in future.
