Parents Meeting with Atteridgeville Young Zebras Went Okay

Today the club, Atteridgeville Young Zeberas held a meeting with the parents of its players to discuss the dilemma in which the club finds itself financially. This is at the back of the looming withdrawal of the club from all leagues after the 19th of September 2019.

Young Zebras, like many other Members of the association, is faced with both suspension as a Member and withdrawal from the Under 11 and Under 13 leagues, whilst it will not be able to register for 2019/20 Super League Season, which starts in October 2019.

The dilemma faced by Young Zebras is also faced by other 15 clubs (Members) out of a total of 31 Members. Zebras is however one of the very few clubs that reached out to the association to notify it that it cannot afford to pay these debts, whilst it really wants to continue to participate in football.

It must be known that there is another sentiment displayed by other Members that seeks to suggest that they do not believe that the association will suspend them, let alone withdraw them from the leagues. There is another sentiment from other Members who want to pinpoint errors from the association and use these to challenge the association and get away from this eventuality. Some Members suffer in silence, hoping for the change of fate. Zebras did the right thing.

The meeting with the parents of the club proved that Parents want to contribute to the sustenance of the clubs where their children play. The picture that some club leaders paint, that parents cannot contribute because of their economic situation, is an incorrect and untrue myth. This myth was busted today.

Today’s meeting also revealed that more than just contributing to the club financially, Parents also want to be informed about club’s activities. They want to know when their children play, how they do, where in the log they are, etc. These are simple things to be fulfilled by clubs, only if they start.

The association urges to clubs to start engaging parents as part of running their clubs.

If Young Zebras is unable to still raise the required amount by the 19th of September, at least they have given it a shot the right way, and they know now that a foundational principle of Parent engagement is embedded, and will simplify the running of the club going forward.

As the association, we wish them all the best on this new journey. We wish them success. We will contribute where required.
