All roads lead to SAFA Tshwane Congress this week. We are approaching the moment of the truth with the region, all to culminate on the 2nd of February 2019.
On the 2nd of February 2019 the region will be convening two Congresses, that is, the Extra-Ordinary Congress, and the Ordinary Congress.
Both these Congresses are crucial. The Extra-Ordinary Congress has two matters of critical importance.
The first matter is the completion of the deliberations on the new Statutes for adoption. Once adopted, the Statutes will be effective immediately and will be used as the basis for the Ordinary Congress that will follow moments later.
The second matter is the motion of no confidence on the Regional Executive Committee. If this motion succeeds, the Regional Executive Committee will be dismissed with immediate effect. That will mean we will start the Ordinary Congress with the appointed task to do so.
The Ordinary Congress also has two critical aspects, that is, getting the Regional Executive Committee to account on the activities of 2017 and 2018, and electing a new Regional Executive Committee.
One may ask, if the current Regional Executive Committee is dismissed during the Extra-Ordinary Congress, how can you get them to account during the Ordinary Congress? The answer is simple – watch the space.
Electing new REC comes with a promise to a better future of football. A new President, for the first time since 2006, will usher in an era of hope, football filled activities, and developmentally focused direction.
We previouslt reported that the SAFA Tshwane President has resigned. This has been confirmed through a memo based communication from the office. We did say that we wish him well in his continued endevours in football at different levels (see below link) However, we remain cautious of his desire and ability to rule from the grave, particularly in him placing his hand in influencing the process and the outcomes of the ensuing elections.
As we march to the 2nd, we place one of our own, Mr Ngoako Piet (Solly) Mohlabeng to be a candidate for President. We expect all to go well and for the desired REC candidates collective to be elected, preferably unopposed. We long for that time where we talk football, and not football politics. The time is near — ixesha lisondele!!!
